Russia

Issue Summary
Russia has always been an enemy of the United States, and in World War II we conceded too much control to Russia over the remains of the war. With the end of the Cold War in the 80's under Reagan and then the break up of the Soviet Union, Russia remains the power country of that region. Russians' have been fighting Terrorism as well as the United States and without saying it, we are fighting a common enemy, as in WW II. Under Obama / Biden we were buying our oil from OPEC at a rate of $700 Billion per year. Iran is a major player in OPEC and is a sponsor of Terror. We were sending huge amounts of money to Iran which was funding the terrorist operations. Becoming energy independent and not relying on OPEC for oil has eliminated our funding of terror with oil money, and Trump's defeat of the ISIS Caliphate has reduced Terror around the globe, and Russia likes that.

When Russia invaded Crimea, Ukraine, Obama implemented sanctions on Russia. Trump kept those sanctions in place and that suffocated the Russian economy. On May 21, 2021, President Joe Biden removed many of those sanctions including allowing Russia to complete the Nordstream II pipeline and sell oil to Europe. The result of this was a tripling of the economy of Russia, which allowed Putin to build more military equipment and buy more bullets and bombs, which was necessary for his to invade Ukraine in 2022.

There was no invasion by Putin during the Trump Administration

Liberal Position

Joe Biden claims that Russia is a bigger threat to the U.S. than China, but there is no evidence to back that up. Under the Obama administration, Hillary Clinton as Secretary of State, tried to normalize relations with Russia with the history Reset button event although it was deemed a failure. Essentially, treating Russia as an ally.

Under Obama/Biden, they released over $1.5 Billion to Iran to help the sponsor terror and an additional $400 million in Cash delivered in the dead of night as part of getting the Iranians to sign the deal. in 2023, The Biden Administration freed up $6 Billion for Iran to help them rebuild their terror network to fund Hamas, Hezbolah and the Houties. Such monies advance the terrorists causes and hurt Russia and allowed Hamas and Hezbollah to attack Israel.

Under the Trump Administration, Joe Biden has changed his position on Russia and the only reason is that he feels that they meddled in the 2016 election. While all foreign countries attempt to impact our elections, the Russians are not the biggest player. China has more influence in tipping the election in Biden's direction than Russia.

Vladimir Putin has come out in support of Joe Biden for President (see Newsweek article) as he feels that Joe Biden Ideals are more in line with Communism.

Conservative Position

Under Obama/Biden gas prices averaged $4 per gallon. While they went down to $1.80 per Gallon under Trump due to his energy policy, the cost of gas shot up over $6 per gallon when president Biden instituted his energy policy.

While under Trump we were energy independent - not relying on foreign countries for our energy - that forced our price of fuel, home heating oil and gas and groceries down. Under Biden/Harris we shut down new leases for oil drilling, shut down the Keystone Pipeline and are now importing oil from Venezeula, Iran and OPEC, sending over $700 Billion per year to OPEC (Iran) and Iran uses some of that money sponsor terrorism.

We were safer under Trump being energy independent, not relying on foreign oil and not funding terroism. This makes us safer. At the same time, terrorist are not getting the money we were sending them, and they are starving for cash. This reduction in terrorism has helped Russia in its fight against terrorisms and as a result.

Trump has display a sign of strength in the Middle East and in Europe and has increased sanctions on Russia. No President has been tougher on Russia since Reagan. Trump and Putin are not friends but they have a working relationship, when it comes to fighting terror, but Putin is supporting Biden for President in 2020 since he thinks he can work with Biden more easily (see article).
